Barret House Ready for its Weekend Guests

The Tol Barret House was built in the 1840's -- new for Europeans but quite an early building for pioneer East Texas. Nacogdoches is "the oldest town in Texas" but the Tol Barret House is one of the few buildings that has survived from the pioneer period of the Republic of Texas from 1836-1846. It was being sold for firewood, but instead my parents restored it to its former state. This is the main room of the "Outdoor Kitchen". The main House is a museum while the Outdoor Kitchen accommodates Bed & Breakfast guests. Most of them, like the couple this weekend from Houston are looking for a getaway from their busy city lives.

Besides the B&B guests, we have our whole family with us this weekend: my brother and his two grown daughters are all here. The joy of having her whole family around her has really energized my Mom and she is feeling quite good.
