On display

LHRH today went to Edinburgh University Library to attend the opening of 'Edinburgh 300: Cradle of Chemistry'. This was especially exciting because these objects on display were discovered by LH.

After the excavation of Old College Quad in 2010, LH was doing some post-excavation research and discovered a reference to Joseph Black's chemistry equipment being stored in a basement of a building we had discovered on site. For those not aware of Joseph Black, he is a hugely important early chemist, so important that both Glasgow and Edinburgh Universities named their Chemistry buildings after him. For various reasons we had not excavated the whole of this building and managed to persuade the University that the potential remained for very significant archaeological artefacts to be discovered.

Subsequently in 2011 LH and a colleague spent three weeks re-excavating the site and discovered a wonderful array of artefacts. Some have been reconstructed and place don display here.

Specilist research is still ongoing, so there are so many answers stories to be told!

Afterwards LHRH went to a show at the fringe.
