Heat Mirage

Nearly 21:00 as Angie returns after a walk & swim with the dogs. It has been ridiculously hot again but today not a breath of air. Angie's office in Munich was only built a few years ago without any air conditioning as it was thought to cause health problems (summer colds etc). Her room faces the sun almost all day so with some 9 hours of office and 90 minutes of an ancient train, home journey, she was washed out and her feet swollen. The pool wasn't much help so she took the dogs to the river and stood in it for half an hour.

Talking of trains, At 11:00 having removed my wound dressing & washed it in preparation for Birgit's daily visit, I phoned to ask when she would be coming - "running late due to accident - around 12:00" but was clearly in stress. So not being able to move around much phoned Angie to say I would be late picking something up for her when she mentioned she had just got an automatic message on her mobile from the rail network that the track between our station and the next one was closed due to an accident. Then it occured to me that shorty after 10:00 I had heard the firebrigade siren, the emergency doctors car, an ambulance and two helicopters. With nothing better to do I Googled and saw a report of an accident involving a motorbike and car, the photo clearly showing one of Birgit's Nursing Service Twingos. Seems a motorbike rider had lost control on a bend which led on to a bridge, he parted with the bike and flew over the bridge on to the side of the railway track while the bike skidded in to the car being driven by Jenny, the 22 y.o. who does my wound when Birgit isn't about. Luckily neither Jenny or the other employee in the car were hurt. The biker was seriously injured and helicoptered to hospital.

Naturally Birgit was somehat busy having to look after her girls, the car, insurance, wrecking crew, police and of course doing the duties the girls couldn't do. It was 15:00 before she arrived, of course totally exhausted. A cup of coffee and a chat helped a bit to cool her down but with the temperature over 35°C, success was limited. However good news on Jenny and also heard her horse is now out on the field again after nearly dying in an accident 10 days ago and Birgit had good news at the weekend on her house hunting front.

For me a zero achieved day but will try to make up for it tomorrow.
