Yellowtail Dam

We set out to visit and tour Bighorn Canyon National Recreational Area which is shared between Wyoming and Montana. What we didn't know was that the scenic portion is located in Wyoming and visited the Montana side. Distance between the sides in term of time? Too many hours drive. So, the only thing worth seeing on the Montana side was the Yellowtail Dam. The Yellowtail Dam is located on the Bighorn River and was completed in 1966. Upon its completion, a big beautiful lake was formed thus came the inspiration to form a National Recreational Area. The dam is 525' high - higher than Hoover Dam! Although taller, the Hoover Dam is wider and thus larger. Oh well. My husband was inspired and enthused by the stop.
