Theodore Roosevelt National Park

Theodore Roosevelt National Park was established in 1978 to honor former President Roosevelt. The North Dakota Badlands was a favorite hunting and vacation spot for T.R. He once said that were not for his time spent in North Dakota, he would not have been inspired to run for President. Once elected president, T.R. set out to preserve the wildlife and nature that he so loved. Starting with the creation of the National Forestry Department and the establishment of a National Park Service including, the parks themselves, Yellowstone being the first, - an act that was unprecented in the world. Prior to the establishment of national parks, the wilderness was seen as a force to be tamed, not to be preserved. T.R.'s goal was to preserve nature "For the benefit and enjoyment of the people." We can thank Theodore Roosevelt for all the beautiful wildlife, wilderness, and nature that still exists today mostly unchanged. He started the natural revolution that swept not only the United States, but the world.

Needless to say, Theodore Roosevelt is my favorite President.
