Carved stone

This stone was found yesterday on the Ness of Brodgar site here in Orkney. Fantastic neolithic site, one of the best in the Western world, giving up carved stones, painted stones and now today, a stone ball!

Great site where you can watch the archeologists at work right in front of you and see the smiles and joy when new and interesting things are uncovered.

This stone is to feature in the National Geographic magazine next year as part of an article on the site. Fantastic carvings and amazing to think this was done over 4000 years ago.
