"The Music Goes Round And Round"

MrQ's mate Ted. He plays double bass and bass guitar but sometimes a bubbly rather than a twangy bottom is needed. :)

Sousa modified the tuba so that it was more suitable for marching and the Sousaphone was born. Mr Q and Ted were off to play at a New Orleans style funeral. The band leader they were playing for isn't a New Orleans jazzer so I did some research for them and really enjoyed it. A Sousaphone or two or three is a must.

I loved watching vids of New Orleans funerals. The jazz/gospel standards are played really bluesy at first and then they up the tempo. Strong guys carry the coffin, sometimes lifting it aloft and at others swinging it backwards and forwards as though they are dancing with the corpse. They then set the coffin down and take turns to dance on it.

The people who come to the funeral to listen to the music and are not mourners are called the Second Line. They carry colourful parasols which they twirl and use as dance props.

Brought a tear to my eye.
