Polyanthus #2

This is the second of four polyanthus plants I bought last week. I chose this one because of the vibrant primary colours.

The predicted snow didn't reach here, just some rain. There wasn't even a frost this morning.

When I went out to the gate at 6.30 am to pick up the newspaper I saw Matariki for the first time this season. Matariki is the Maori name for the Pleiades or Seven Sisters, and its first appearance marks the beginning of their New Year. This is around the time of the winter solstice. It takes longer for me to see Matariki because I don't have a clear view of the horizon in that direction.
