Kehlberg Street Party

A beautiful day today. Had planned an early start to my kidney stone treatment horse field strimming work but somehat delayed as Angie wanted to ride Rosie for the first time in months but not wanting to risk losing a shoe, she didn't take the untracked route through the forest. Thus went on the road for the first half mile where I then met her with the dogs for them to start their walk (Luna is not yet road "trusty"). At our meeting point there was a Youth Camp packing up after a weeks tenting and no doubt singing around the fireplace. Farmer Blanck of "Fresh Milk Filling Station" fame came by loaded with grass for his cows and we had a half hour chat. I didn't realise he was so in to agriculture & health issues including complicated things like a connection between Morbus Crohn & calf feeding! He has contacts worldwide including a Professor from Weybridge, UK.

Then at last set about strimming under the electric fence on a rented horse field outside of our property and near the road. As there is little grass, the horses tend to lean on & over the wire when they realise there is no "juice". So the nettles, grass etc had to be removed. As I haven't done much maintenance on the fields this year and due to weather, there were quite a few areas on the field with high weeds so I started strimming these and before I noticed it, I had virtually cut the whole three quarters of an acre - by hand!

After 5 hours of strimming, took a short break to get some liquid back in the system before we went to the 8th Annual "Kehlberg Street Party" just up the road in the village, hosted by Helga & Ossi, mainly for the locals. They rent a professional chicken grill machine and naturally have a "normal" BBQ offering as well as the odd liquid refreshment. I stuck to shandy while Angie was in to Beer, Jagermeister and finally Bacardi Razz, whatever that is. Luckily Mr & Mrs B helped us out as we forgot to take a wallet (my fault of course). A highlight was someone offering four different cakes to try out, two of which were the sort Blonde Twinkle keeps Bliping - the dreaded cup cakes - and that in Bavaria, a stronghold of good food. Next thing you know, we will have mushy peas offered with our sausages instead of sauerkraut! (I have noted Red Flash's Aldi mushy peas warning)

One local resident was missing, part time farmer Mueller, who's cow & calf was the photo of the Milk Filling Station Blip. He is in Memmingen hospital after having a kidney stone removed two weeks ago and then catching the dreaded MRSA virus (what Ottobeuren hospital thought I had after being at Memmingen hospital on the same ward as he is, and why they put me in 48hr quarantine). He's over the hill now but a simple three day visit has now been two weeks and the family had a hard time keeping the farm working as he did it all himself and none of the family even know how to drive a tractor - he has never been ill before apparently! Luckily after one week they got a so called "Village Helper" which is a system provided by the socail security/health insurance for farmers who are ill, either to do the housework or the farm work.

So yes, a great day, a pleasant surprisingly very warm evening and with luck tomorrow my shaken up and "shandied" stones will be hitting the porcelain.

UPDATE SUNDAY MORNING - It worked! Proof on Flickr
