Turkey Café

Went into Leicester earlier today, mainly to do some video footage of the buses there, but also to do a bit of shopping.

It was quite cloudy but bright, which meant that some of the video I shot came out dark and shadowy as the buses approached, then lightened up once they'd passed. Looks like I'm going to have to remove the shadows when I edit the footage into a film.

Sadly the place looked pretty much runned down compared to what I remember. There was also a smell of cannabis in the air, some of which I first smelt when I was in Primark of all places.
There I bought a couple of T-shirts for my friend - to say thanks for letting me stay (we'll spoil him once Mme MB and the kids are here). A pair of jogging bottoms and another T-shirt for me. I had hoped to get a belt too, as I had forgotten mine. But they were all too small. I can't wear my only pair of jeans without one, so the extra jogging bottoms sort of replace those.

After Primark I headed to WH Smiths. Very small choice of transport related books in there, so I bought two bus magazines. Then over the road to The Works, where I bought nothing. Each year it seems to get naffer and naffer in there. At one time you had allsorts of different books and even local history and transport books. There were none in there today and come to think of it, none last year either.

After I came out of The Works, a security van outside Boots had its warning announcement blaring out. "Driver needs help, call the Police".

On the way to pick up the Park & Ride I took a few short clips of Leicester landmarks with my phone - to create a short for my Youtube channel. The market is still not there, after it was demolished last year.

All in all, it seems full of discount stores and is a shadow of its former self.

The Turkey Café is a bit of an iconic building on Granby Street in the city centre. Between when I lived in Leicester and now, the frontage has been nicely refurbished. A "To Let" sign is on the front.
