Walk 36 – Stithians to Kennall Vale
For those of you who follow our BLIPS regularly, you will know that we are on a mission to walk 100 of the I Walk Cornwall Walks in a year.
Mmmmmm........ when Ann set us this project it seemed like an easy task..................... ie we only had to walk a couple of walks a week. And after all, I need at least one decent length walk every day.
Best laid plans and all that..................... Ann forgot to factor in, that she works 4 days a week, and is soon to be volunteering at the RNLI at least one day a week, and we go off up to Edinburgh for at least a month at a time and we have friends visiting, who do not want to go on walks with us. And now that we've done all the walks in the surrounding area, we have to drive to where we want to walk and that can take us at least an hour. And sometimes it just rains & rains & rains so obv we're not going to do a big long walk in horrendous weather.
Anyway at the moment, we're still on track to complete 100 walks by the end of 2025................ but Ann doesn't think she can keep up this level of activity forever. She's exhausted.
Today's walk was great. The minute I got into a field I found a manky old ball. I carried it for about 5 miles. And then we went into a field where there was a bunny that needed chasing. The bunny ran into prickly brushes so I dropped the ball, and then he ran across the field so I chased him. Obviously I couldn't catch him because bunnies are pretty speedy, so I went back to the prickly bushes to retrieve my ball but I couldn't find it and Ann was in 'angry mode' and had been calling me forever so I thought I'd better go back to her.
We walked for more than 7 miles today. A lot of the walk was along lanes or through fields (that had signs saying that there was livestock grazing and to keep dogs on leads – there wasn't – but Ann follows the rules so she kept me on my lead).
The best bit of the walk was through Kennall Vale. What a fascinating place. It's the site of gunpowder factories in 1812. Soooo much history and relics of the past.
Walk 36 – Complete – Only another 64 to go. Lol!!!
