Mirage Of A Madri Man

We had another quiet day today and only took a stroll down to our local, The Chequers, for a pint and as it was a gloriously sunny day we were able to sit outside on the terrace for the first time this year and soak up some rays.
Our current favourite tipple at the moment is the supposedly Spanish lager Madri. However, it turns out appearances are very much deceptive as this is a beer developed in Burton on Trent in Staffordshire by the brewing giant Coors with some 'input' from their Spanish brewery subsidiary Toledo La Sagra and manufactured in that well known Mediterranean hotspot of Tadcaster in North Yorkshire!
The packaging and branding uses a red design featuring a Chalupo man (a traditional male form of dress in some areas of Madrid featuring a houndstooth waistcoat and cap and sporting a red carnation) echoing the branding of another beer - Moretti.
It trades heavily on its Spanish associations, using the slogan "El ama de madro" ("the soul of Madrid") but this has drawn criticism of its makers, who have been accused of a lack of authenticity and transparency - with one newspaper, somewhat hyperbolically, describing it as "the biggest illusion in British brewing history".
My image was taken through an outdoor parasol bearing the aforementioned branding as we sat downing our pints, so that it appears almost mirage like - and after all one meaning of the word mirage is an unrealistic hope or wish that cannot be achieved - much like this beer thinking it's Spanish! :-)
