Birds & Blooms - 5
This is one of our winter sparrows who will be leaving very soon to head north for the summer. White-throated sparrows come in two color variants, this one and one that has more muted head stripes and less vibrant eye brows. Both variants were in our cherry trees this morning but this one was just perfectly tucked in among the blossoms. Both sparrows and finches eat the sugary part of the blossoms on the cherry trees - they literally grab the flower, bite off the end with nectar and drop the rest. One has to be very quick to catch it and I have so far failed this spring. And since the cherry blossoms are leaving the trees very quickly now, I may be out of luck on that for the year. Hey ho.
Hubs and I went to T-Mobile today to see if they could give us a better deal on our mobile phone package that Verizon (who we have been with for over 20 years). We are now T-Mobile customers with two brand new iPhones and a cheaper monthly plan. The young man who helped us was from Egypt and was telling us how he was planning to import dates from Saudi Arabia and Turkey to sell online in the US. Hubs isn't a date fan, but I love them so "Sweed" and I had a great conversation about dates and the different types and so on. When we were leaving, he insisted on gifting me a big box of dates from Saudi Arabia. They taste far less sweet than the packaged dates we find here - so delicious. Wasn't that the nicest thing to do? I find myself hoping he has been well treated in this country and that he is not ever swept and deported. He's got citizenship papers, but I am not sure if that means anything anymore. He said he came here during the Arab Spring uprisings in Egypt.
We are having a perfect spring day with very low humidity, temps around 80 F and a nice breeze. Hubs is out mowing the lawn with his brand new riding mower and Jax and I are enjoying pottering around the yard and garden.
It's been a good day. Today I've managed not to worry about all the things that have been weighing me down lately. And that is a big win.
