A Meandering Life...

Dandelion Bee

This is why I don't use weedkiller on dandelions. This bee is covered in pollen from one of its main source of food this early in the season, the dandelion.

It is possible some of this pollen is already covered in weedkiller from elsewhere and this bee will take it back to the hive and cause untold damage to the other bees.

I have many dandelions in my garden and I deal with them in different ways. Some, if in the lawn, will be dug out by a special tool I have that grabs deep and removes most of the root.

If they grow where I'm okay with them I will let them flower and either deadhead them as the start to seed or use a weed burner if they have seeded. The seedbeds burn quickly and this allows more flowers to grow.

The bees need dandelions, we need the bees...
