Six Recessionary Gnomes.

These garden gnomes were a gift to The Old Lady about 20 years ago, there should have been seven full sized ornaments but, due to financial cut backs, they were reduced to a set of six pocket sized figures. Produced in homage to The Man in Grey, John Major, there was a leaflet that came with them explaining their background; the gist of it was that Major’s father had earned a crust by manufacturing garden gnomes and that, if junior had followed in his father’s footsteps, British history would have taken a very different course.
All this information will, naturally, be wasted on the younger generation who will not remember either the Thatcher administration and its aftermath, or the lampooning Major suffered at the hands of radio programmes such as “Week Ending” or the television offerings like “Spitting Image.”
