Mono Monday - Reclaimed
Well virtually everything you see on the North Norfolk Railway is 'reclaimed'. The steam engine is named the Royal Norfolk Regiment. The WD 90775 was one of 12 Austerity 2-10-0's built during WWII when resources were scarce. It was delivered to the Ministry of Supply in Dec 1943 and used in the Middle East. After the War in 1945 it was moved from Egypt to Greece, and then bought back to Ipswich docks in 1984. It has been used by the North Norfolk Railway since 2003. Most of the buildings, railway tracks, signal boxes, signals and so on are also reclaimed. Even replacement parts are salvaged from other engines that cannot be saved, then reclaimed and 'fixed'. I've also added a colour photo to Extras of the National Coal Board steam engine with its lovely vintage carriages, passing over the 'key' needed for the next engine to travel on the single line track. .
At lunchtime I met up with my friend N in town for lunch, she was here for the Easter weekend with her son and his family. We've not seen each other since the pandemic, so we had lots to catch up on and two hours flew by. We'll meet up in Ely in a few months time for another lunch.
Sad news about the death of the Pope. In one way it reminded me of the death of our late Queen, both doing their duty right up to the very end in spite of illness.
