Taking in the flag, packing up

We've packed and cleaned and taken in the flag. It's always out when the Maine house is occupied. Thankfully, it won't stay furled long, my brother & sister in law will be here Friday with two mutual friends for the Blueberry Festival and a week off relaxing here for my brother and D. G will be up with a friend over the long Labor Day weekend in September, so this house, a house that loves company will be happy.

We on the other hand are sad. Raspberry is sure something is up and it will be a long and shocking day for her in her cozy cat case in the backseat. She was quiet on the 6 hour ride up, hoping for the same heading home. It will be wonderful to see Max who has been pampered to the max at home. However, it will be a rude change of routine for both, the separation ritual again...thanks to Raz. Hopefully we will get through the Boston traffic at the tail end of the trip and make it home without some Monday commuting nightmare.

We did make it to Jasper Beach this afternoon. It was crowded, 'mobbed' as the locals say, at least 10 other folks there from States far and wide. We used to be the only ones there years ago, but it's quite popular with tourists now I guess judging from the license plates. It's a beautiful spot, a unique beach with smooth polished stones no visible sand, a rock collector's dream location.

We have had a fabulous three weeks. Country roads will now be a memory as we head back to a bit bigger world with more frantic demands and traffic.

Next year, maybe a month...

For the Record,
This day came in bright and beautiful, warm, clear and perfect. The stars are shining now and the meteor showers have begun. One last sleep and we'll be on the road.
