Male butterflies deposit a spermatophore (a package of sperm) into the female during mating. This sperm then fertilizes the eggs within the female's body, a process called internal fertilization. I spotted this loving pair in the field just above our house. What a treat as butterflies don’t fly off when they are concentrating on the next generation and these were very concentrated.
