A Gorgeous Spring Day!
I had a lovely almost 4 mile walk with a friend this morning. There's a trail close by to my house called the Rock Creek Trail, named after the creek that runs through the neighborhood and golf course. It's really a terrific trail - about 3.5 miles long (in one direction) and paved (see extra for map). I don't like walking on sections of it by myself - no reason really, other than intuition. But it's a marvelous place to walk for a couple of hours with a friend! Spring is definitely evident - verdant leaves, bird singing, gorgeous blue skies.
This afternoon I puttered around, getting ready for an adventure tomorrow. I'm going to meet Dick in Gearhart, OR tomorrow where he lives. It's on the northern coast of Oregon. We're playing golf tomorrow afternoon at Gearhart Golf Links which bills itself as the "Oldest Golf Course West of the Mississippi". You'll (especially you Scotsmen) will appreciate this:
In 1891, before any formal golf course existed west of the Mississippi River, a clatch of homesick Scotsmen confounded the locals by burying tin cans into the dunes and then knocking balls with sticks until they dropped into the cans. For these Scots, the landscape at Gearhart was strongly reminiscent of the native, ancient courses of St. Andrews and Montrose.
Fore!
