Fish Island
Near Hackney Wick around the river Lee and its canalised tributaries. It’s all got quite trendy round here, across the bridge from the Olympic Park and is near where B&C live. We caught an early train and met them at the restaurant, Inis, on the banks of one of the canals. I brought with me this puzzle game and some wooden biscuits that I found in Fred Aldo’s that little shop in Manchester and both children really enjoyed playing with them. Always good to find something that keeps Ivy in her chair for a bit.
Inis is nominally an Irish restaurant selling, not too upscale, but upscale approximations of Irish food, Spice bag is a chip shop special in Dublin and very popular and delicious. I had ham and coleslaw on soda bread with a Green Maria, a green chili variant on a Bloody Mary. Pudding was of course Guinness cake and custard.
It was fun and we caught up then walked back them across through the park before peeling off for the train. The area is much the same as it always was but with trendy bars and restaurants. I saw a yellow wagtail flitting across the canal.
The extra is from the walk back across the river whilst a lone paddle boarder posed his way down the river.
Home by 6.30, didn’t need much supper but V cooked up some Okra and we watched a Black Mirror. Slightly silly one.
