Father-in-law at Thule Site J, Greenland
Mr hazelh spent this afternoon scanning old slides of his father when he was surveying sites in Greenland in 1960. I love this shot of my father-in-law up a radar dish, aged about 25. Mr hazelh shares a similar jawline and eyes. (Here's Mr hazelh a couple of years younger at 22.)
Part of my own afternoon was unexpectedly spent in hospital. This morning I suddenly lost my (new) perfect sight in my right eye when everything went blurry. What a fright! After a couple of frantic phone calls, the surgeon who carried out my cataract surgery in January invited me to an emergency appointment at 4pm. The outcome of all this is not as serious as feared. The surgeon concluded that I have suffered a sudden posterior vitreous detachment, most likely precipitated by surgery. There is definitely no damage to my retina. I just have to wait until the resulting floaters disappear of their own accord, and take it easy for the next few days.
The evening Mr hazelh and I went to the Festival Theatre to see Pride and prejudice - sort of*. We could tell from the first scene that this was not our kind of thing at all. We escaped home at the interval.
Exercise today: 1 hour on the exercise bike; swim (20 lengths); strength training class; walking (24,899 steps).
