Battersea Power Station
Last night as soon as he finished operating, the surgeon phoned to report back on Gavin’s surgery. It went well, much better than expected! It was all done in 2 hours and he managed to get all of the tumour out without any complications - apparently it was massive, he says the size of a football! He did not need to cut into the colon so no stoma is needed which was a huge relief, as it was looking very likely. I felt we had crossed a major hurdle and could now face the others coming his way. Thank you for all the prayers and positive thoughts, I know it helped.
Gavin is still in ICU but today they already tried to mobilise him. He has much pain as it was a huge, invasive surgery but it is being managed. He seemed much brighter today and clear headed. When we arrived to see him late this morning, he was sitting up in a chair after walking a bit with the physiotherapist. He was very chatty. However this afternoon he felt wiped out and was just sleeping all the time.
Today has felt like the first normal day since this all began - I have hardly slept or eaten during the last few days, but last night I slept through the night, and today I got groceries first thing this morning and so I cooked tonight and we ate a proper meal. It felt good to be doing something normal again.
I know this is the lull before the storm, and until we get the pathology report and know what we are dealing with, we can pretend to be okay.
Everyday Luke has been driving us to the hospital and parking at his flat, which is located very close to the hospital so it has been very convenient. This was the view of the Battersea Power Station as we were walking back to his car after we left the hospital today. It's a bit like 101 ways to photograph the Power Station at the moment, but my mind isn't really on photography and this is always the view I see.
