For whom the bell tolls...
The first day of Surrey v Somerset at the Oval. I only stayed for the first session, which was a tough watch as a Surrey supporter, with the visitors scoring 87 runs without losing a wicket. Needless to say once I'd gone home things changed and Somerset were bowled out for 283.
Two weeks ago the five minute bell was rung by the club president who featured in my blip. Today the honour went to this guy, sadly I didn't catch his name, who is one of the ground staff who helps to keep the playing surface looking so immaculate.
The extra is of Jamie Smith, named this week as one of Wisden's five cricketers of the year for 2024, and the cover star of the Playfair annual which I blipped yesterday.
As I mentioned before, this year is the 180th anniversary of Surrey County Cricket Club, and I'll be trying to put together a collection of candid portraits of players, staff and members. You can see the beginnings of this by following the link
