Lilac for the lane

This cold dry sunny weather has been wonderful for the Spring flowers.  Things that can often be gone in a minute seem to be flowering on, not battered by rain nor blown by winds (too much) or fast forwarded by warmer sunshine.  This lilac has never flowered so well.  Unfortunately its best side is entirely in the lane not in shady part of the garden.  Still it gives me joy to come back to it after a walk and is a beautiful sight.  The lily of the valley are also out and I must get down on hands and knees and coax out a bunch.

Walked first thing in the woods and clocked up 15 different birds through the Merlin app, although as one was apparently a ringed ouzel, red listed and rare, I think its diagnostics are occasionally wonky.  Still, I am beginning to learn a song thrush from a blackbird.  As I walked back on the lane at the other side of the field I could hear the chorus distantly continuing, hovering over the trees.

Busy in the office, talked to a Spanish producer, finished off the entries and then had a big pitch call with Gaynor

Rushed into town to pickup stuff for supper as young cousin Charlotte was arriving, with her friends,  to walk the South Downs way tomorrow. I cooked a rather bland fish pie from Mary Berry and had more rhubarb and blueberry compote.
Haven’t taken any pics of Charlotte yet, was rushing around a lot.  Must do that tomorrow….
