The Pope’s funeral

In recognition of Pope Francis’s funeral taking place today, I thought I would blip St. Gabriel’s RC church in neighbouring Prestonpans.

Built in 1965 and designed by George Kennedy and Michael Landon of Alison and Hutchison and Partners, the striking Catholic church is one of the best examples of modernist architecture in Scotland, with its white rendered walls and unique design contributing to its distinct look.

We had a nice walk round the town, even popping into the local library and having a go at the community jigsaw, which was most fun. So much so that we have ordered a copy of this jigsaw (see extra), so we can make it up at home.

We were impressed with the library, which looks immaculate (see extra) and was being well used with by a wide variety of local (toddlers, teens meeting area, computer club for seniors etc). My opinion is that libraries are vital community hubs and should be protected at all costs, and not having hours cut or even closed, which we are hearing is happening all over the country.

I hasten to add that I took out a book … use it or lose it, as they say.

Sorry to rant …

I hope you are having a good Saturday.
