Calming greens
Tommy got an Uber to the airport early this morning, but will be back next weekend. Last night he made supper, it was a most delicious stir fry. I did a few chores and then took Xena for a walk, the new green leaves on the trees is looking lovely now. The woods are so calming and restorative for my mind, I am lucky to be able to get out and walk there.
As I am on my own now, (don't have Luke to drive me), I caught a train up to London - I can't drive to the hospital as there is no parking nearby - besides I am a bit nervous driving in London traffic. From Vauxhall station I did not travel the Gen Z way on the Lime/Forest bikes, but instead did it the old fashioned way and walked 30 minutes to the hospital. By coincidence, when I was walking to the hospital I bumped into two of Adam's closest friends who were out running, so they stopped and I told them about Gavin. Earlier, Luke and Meriel had visited Gavin but I only got there at lunchtime after they had left.
Gavin has breathing exercises to do as a post-op risk is a chest infection from lying in bed, and he has to sit up as much as possible. The surgeon had already been to see him early this morning (I swear that man never sleeps) and as I missed him he texted me to say that Gavin is doing well but as it was such a major operation the next 7-10 days are going to be difficult. The physio came and went through some simple exercises like lying flat and bending his knees, doing knee turns etc. Even that was an effort as the cut is so long right down his abdomen, it pulls when he moves anything. After I left some time after 4pm, Gavin was moved out of ICU and into a room. Now the physio will show him how to get out of bed and help him do more walking.
Unfortunately there was a problem on the train line at Wimbledon so my train home was delayed by 40 minutes. It meant I got home much later than expected and I was getting so anxious as Xena had been on her own all afternoon. I took her for another walk when I got home (I have done 20 500 steps so far today!)
