Nine Elms

I planned to meet Luke at the hospital by noon so I was up early to walk Xena and get organised - I also booked a grocery delivery for tomorrow as I don’t have time to get to the supermarket.

The train was busy as today is the London Marathon. There were many people going to London to support runners and I felt a little sad while they were excitedly chatting about the marathon, as I have been in that position before and wished I was going to see Gavin running rather than visiting him in hospital. (He has eleven London Marathons under his belt!)

When we got to Gavin’s room he was sleeping. Today has not been a good day for him and it’s been a bit of a step backwards. He had a temperature for most of the day, his blood pressure is up and his abdomen is very swollen and bloated. He was meant to start eating today but that has been postponed, and he went for another CT scan as they are worried about infection in his abdomen. Usually the CT scan results are instantly reported but as it’s a Sunday they are sent to an out of hours radiology centre so we had to wait a while, but thankfully they came back negative for any infection. He has slept for most of the day so Luke and I just sat around (I managed to catch up with Blip!)

We walked to Battersea Power station precinct which was buzzing with people enjoying the warm weather and sunshine (20C today), and bought something for lunch. See extra

When I left Gavin much later this afternoon his temperature was down again and he felt a bit better. The surgeons spoke of him coming home on Wednesday/Thursday but he is far off that I would think.

When I was walking back to Vauxhall station I took this photo across the river of the Nine Elms area. The square building with the wavy exterior is the US Embassy (you may recognise it from the Netflix show The Diplomat). The lower brown building in front of it are luxury apartments.

Lots of walking again today, about 22,500 steps.
