Osprey #44
This morning we headed to Foulshaw Moss and then RSPB Leighton Moss on our way to Askrigg in the Yorkshire Dales where we will spend the week with our gaming friends.
Foulshaw Moss really came up trumps with no less than 4 ospreys seen, this one eating a large fish whilst sat on a tree stump. It's a huge crop, but it's cleaned up quite nicely I think. We also added redpoll and grasshopper warbler to our year list, saw 2 deer and an adder - yes an adder!
I've never seen one before so it was such a thrill. It slithered across the boardwalk when we were near the ospreys but my shots weren't that great I'm afraid. I put one in extras just to have a record.
At Leighton Moss we saw sand martins and a smart drake garganey for two more year ticks and then had a good run cross country to Askrigg arriving at around 4.30pm. A fantastic day that I'm hoping is the start of a fabulous week in Yorkshire.
Apologies in advance as I might not be commenting too much this week - depends on how busy I get and if I get roped into games in the evenings or not :)
