In search of heavy metal

After some bad news late yesterday I was in a very despondent mood this morning, and wasn't for going anywhere, but having stayed with Mum and Dad overnight the day was young and we decided a trip to Ayr might be in order. Detectiving, you see.

So off we drove, taking the easier motorways round Glasgow and heading south past Kilmarnock. Our first objective was a rather plain old shop front, once Alexanders Stores Ltd, subtitled The Popular Supply Stores. All of the ironwork is by our favourite Kirkintillian foundry. Then we wandered through the toon, to visit the Savoy Park Hotel, not for high teas and luncheons but to ogle the cast iron entrance porch, which has coloured, painted glazing and various flavours of decorative ironwork including some very bandstandy iron columns, and is surprise surprise, also by the Lion Foundry. :-)

It was past lunchtime so I led us to a very peaceful wee cafe that played nice background music, and we enjoyed soup and coffee.

Back to the car and we drove north, skilfully avoiding the Kingston Bridge by taking the Clyde tunnel, which is short, steep and exciting, and which led us in turn to the motorcycle accessory shop I've visited several times before, and. I tried on several more pairs of jeans and had a good chat with the staff.

And then back to Mum and Dad's for beans on toast and post-Easter chocolate brownie. Yum!
