Cnicht
Today we went for a walk, hoping that the mountain forecast of glorious sunshine was more accurate than the sea level forecast of low cloud. In the end we had a bit of both, as we climbed up Cnicht (pictured) going into the cloud around 500m. Fortunately we had the entertainment of some scrambling to reach its 689m summit. Django managed OK, with a bit of undignified shoving in places.
As we dropped down towards the Rhosydd col, we got below the clouds and had some decent views as we explored the old slate mine and its ruined buildings (see extras). At 450m, it was chilly on a breezy day, so it was sobering to think that men lived and worked up there all year round, There was then a gradual descent back to the car at Croesor village.
We tried to get a late lunch at the Tan-y-Bwlch station café, but it had stopped serving, we got fuel from the Tesco in Porthmadog, but it was closed for groceries. Fortunately the Spar in Penrhyndeudraeth was open!
