Cnicht and slate

The mountain forecast for today was for sunshine, unlike the sea level forecast, so we decided to go up Cnicht, a small (689m) but distinctive hill, with some scrambling near the summit (extra).  Sadly, the mountain forecast was wrong, and we were in the cloud from about 500m. Thankfully, Django managed the scrambling, with a bit of help from Julian.
From the summit, we continued along the ridge to complete a horseshoe walk taking us past the  Rhosydd quarry. By the, the weather had improved and we spent time exploring the old slate mine and its derelict dwellings.
We got to the car early afternoon but the Tan-y-Bwlch station was not serving food anymore, and by the time we got to Tesco's in Porthmadog, it was closing....thank goodness for Spar shops.
