EB: today I have mostly been reading….
It’s a good book, curious to say the least, but I wish the library’s hardback copy was not so large! I know the publishing industry needs them, and they look good on a shelf, but why have hardbacks grown so huge and heavy in recent years? They are hardly portable.
I continued to be tired (not as tired as yesterday) so I skipped a lunch party I had been meaning to attend, and sat in the garden with jigsaw and podcasts. Weather was very hot, I’d say about 25 degrees.
GG phoned, and on hearing I was tired, said unsympathetically, ‘Well, your holiday in Dorset didn’t do you much good, did it?’
I could have said, ‘Your years running the job club didn’t improve your people skills much’
but then again, perhaps she’s getting dementia. I think that every time I hear a person of 80-plus saying something tactless. I think it’s because when I told my mother, seven years ago, that a great friend of mine had been given five days to live after a very late diagnosis of cancer, my mother replied,
‘well if she’d been run over by a bus, she wouldn’t have had as long as five days’ which was not the response I’d been hoping for. In hindsight, it was a dementia red flag, but I wasn’t looking for them then.
PS I’ve ironed my clothes for tomorrow (work) and put them out, and the cat is now sitting on them. Grrr
