Midrock
We've had a fabulous summers day all day and evening, I went for a two-hour walk along one of the many trails on Alvaret, the huge plain on the south side of the island. I chose the 7km. trail to the Mid-rock, a huge rock, incorporated in the mid-wall, a handmade wall, over 40km long, running north south across all of Alvaret, marking the mid of the island. The wall is a part of the Parish-borders. Each parish on the west and east side of the island is marked by its own stone wall, somewhat lower and connected to mid wall. The mid wall is about 1.70m. high and building all these walls must have been an enormous task for the peasants who were ordered to build them. The walls were ordered by Swedish authorities during the beginning of the 18-hundreds, when the King still owned the island as his own hunting ground.
The view from top of the rock is stunning, particularly on a day like today and the ground is full of orchids (a lot earlier than usual) the extra shows the most common one just now, Orchis mascula.
We had to re-do one of the readings Johan, the actor, did a couple of weeks ago. The person who ordered it wasn't happy with the tempo and he wanted it read a little jollier. The customers wish is law, so now there is a slightly shorter and jollier version on its way to him.
