Fence repairs and Asparagus
Last September I took the first steps towards replacing the privacy fence by the patio, having cut the Honeysuckle and the Winter Jasmin back to do the job.
In the past week or two the Winter Jasmine has taken off, as has the Honeysuckle which has gone wild and needs support.
After dismissing trellises and ready-made fences I decided to just put up support wires and train the Honeysuckle on that. Two uprights were required so I used a couple of old posts that I have and screwed them to the original fence posts.
Mrs W suggested that it would be nice if the Honeysuckle was to spread into the Bay Tree, so I have pointed the longest shoots in that direction, and the rest attached to the wires to sort themselves out. I just hope I have not damaged the Honeysuckle as it was determined to head across the patio to get to the afternoon sun.
A few days ago we froze some asparagus, and expressions of interest were made. I said I would let you know how it went. The recommended method of cooking frozen asparagus seems to be roasting. Something new to us so we gave it a go. Just to compare I did four roasted (two each) and four microwave-steamed as we normally do. The roasted ones won by a very clear margin - delicious, just put frozen spears on a baking tray, baste with oil and season, and cook for about ten or fifteen minutes at 180C – keep checking them. I did slightly overcook the steamed ones, but I don’t think it would have altered the findings. Photo at extras.
