Gently down the stream

Herb Bennet

Geum urbanum

Right now this gorgeous little flower is opening its petals everywhere round here.  The flowerhead is fairly tiny (8 to15mm) and it's a member of the rose family, but who, I wondered, was the original 'Bennet'? According to Google, not a person but a corruption of the medieval Latin "herba benedicta," meaning "blessed herb".  It's alternative name is 'wood avens'.  It was blipped immediately outside my house this morning just before the Council grass-cutters came along and lopped it!

The rest of the day was walking Hazel who got too hot and just tried to lie down, and doing some much needed house cleaning.  Not really the way I'd choose to spend such a beautiful day, but needs must. And I believe we have the same weather tomorrow ;))

Results for WFW25_03 will be in my journal tomorrow.  Have a great evening, all  xx
