May Day

The spell of sunny weather was broken this morning without any ado as I bussed back from the beach. Having been swimming in sunshine and summery warmth only half an hour before, I couldn’t get my head around seeing raindrops on the windscreen of the bus, but there was no way of ignoring them. Fortunately they were transient but the sun in all its glory had disappeared to be  superseded by cloudy skies albeit still warm. Yesterday evening was so warm, my patio door was open to the night air until I went to bed. What a difference it makes to be warm both in and out of the house.

One sees so many odd attires (mine included) when travelling on buses that noticing a man wearing a long cloak at 7:30am didn’t raise even one of my eyebrows and it wasn’t until I was told that the Druids had been celebrating a Beltane Fire Festival on Arthur’s Seat last night and that there were fire engines blocking the carriageway near St Margaret’s Loch that I put two and two together. When I was a student it was the thing to do to climb the hill at dawn on May1st and wash your face in the dew. That was meant to enhance your beauty. I did it once to no effect and never repeated it. I didn’t know then that the Druids still existed.

I had time before our swim to wander the sands and try and find something worthy of blipping. This  piece of wet seaweed looked for all the world like a little seahorse left behind on the ebbing tide
