A favourite tulip
Thank you all for your supportive messages about my knee. I’m not going to keep commenting further about it. When it improves I’ll record it.
Bathroom Chris didn’t arrive till after 2 as he had to be somewhere else, something to do with a boiler. He’s grouting today.
This morning I walked down to the Philosophy group meeting and got a lift back with Ros. About a dozen were there, eager to get going. The facilitator says more ers and ums than actual communication so it took a while. His question “Is it possible to act against your will?” had us all asking what he meant by act and will. Some discussion ensued. Shona phoned me afterwards expressing concern about the language used by some people - despise, hate etc. (Ros had already asked the tutor to say dead and not passed on) so I suggested she states that at the next meeting. No point moaning to me!
After lunch Mr C drove us down to the hall to vote in the county council election. We had 8 candidates standing in our ward so I expect votes will be split resulting in a win for the incumbent who was born here but only went to 2 meetings council. I imagine Labour will take a hammering everywhere.
I went to another room in the hall for Art Appreciation. Theresa introduced us to the work of Joseph Wright of Derby. She was such a good speaker, making her subject so interesting that it has put some of us off volunteering to take a turn. I think I might try later in the year if I could put enough together to make a topic interesting. Again I got a lift up the hill with Ros.
I sat outside a while with my book “Mayflies” by Andrew O’Hagan but it cooled off quite quickly. No gin on the terrace tonight. The end of the heatwave is upon us, but hopefully that wasn’t our summer.
