Mayday, Mayday....

I had to go into Norwich this morning so I took a detour to The Broads on the way home.  This windmill is at Thurne and was built to pump water from the marshes to make the land suitable for agriculture.  It's one of many by the rivers on The Broads and indeed, there is another on the other side of the river from this one only a couple of hundred yards away.

Thurne is a little out of the way by road but is easily accessible from the water.  There are good moorings along the side of the windmill leading to the small village and, as I recall (although it's many years since I went in), a reasonable pub.  I remember visiting for the first time over 50 years ago on a boating holiday with a mate of mine.
