I hadn’t been to the place of Captain James Cook’s landing since the mid ‘50s when I was a little ankle biter. We were impressed, not only with the views and well maintained open spaces but also the balanced presentation of a very important location in Australia’s history.
The main blip shows the little stone monument where the first Englishman stepped off the boat in 1770 (supposedly Capt Cook’s wife’s cousin). From there, all he needed to do was make his way past the sculpture in the foreground to become the first white fella to set foot on Terra Australis.
I quite like the sculpture and can see the whale skeleton and structure of square riggers but the interpretation inflicted upon us in the extra leaves me a bit prune faced.
The second extra shows isbi taking a shot of an imaginary “HMS Endeavour” making its way into Botany Bay.
