Change of use
I had to go over to Tobermory to complete a number of tasks and when everything was done I treated myself to a Tobermory whisky and marmalade ice cream cone, my favourite, which I haven’t had for at least a year. As I leaned against the railing watching the world pass by, I also started thinking about the buildings around me. This was prompted by the very blue one which is the subject of my blip. The ground floor is a relatively new fish and chip take-away with, I think, a very appropriate name but there is also a clue to its former use.
Out of the picture and to the left of the blue building is a former church, complete with spire and stained glass glass rose window. After the church closed, it was bought by a local family who did weaving (tweed and mohair) and sold good quality gifts. That was where I worked during the summer when I was home from uni. Since then it has also been a cafe, followed by another cafe under different ownership, and now an Italian restaurant. (I may well have missed out some other use over the years.)
Beside me, on the seaward side of the street (extra) is the very pink Mull Ice Cream shop where I bought my delicious ice cream. Before it became an ice cream shop this building was the public conveniences!
