Starring

I’m down in Uckfield for the weekend as Dad was taken into hospital yesterday lunchtime. It’s been a long day of travelling (though all the trains were bang on time and not crowded) then my brother drove us down to Eastbourne. Dad was still in a side room of A&E after all this time. There was no water by his bed and he couldn’t remember if he had eaten anything. His breath smelled of ketones. We got him to drink a little and eat some apricots, chocolate and half a sandwich. An hour passed and nobody came so I went to ask a nurse what was happening. He said that Dad had refused all food, drink and medication, and that he would soon be moved up to a medical ward. We will go back tomorrow. It was a pretty depressing experience and I feel quite homesick. Mum seems to be ok - at least she is getting some sleep and hopefully some help with caring for Dad will be arranged before he comes home.

This beautiful flower is growing in front of the house - it’s called the garden Star of Bethlehem.
