Phriday phailures
Needing to get away from my work laptop, and work in general, I escaped at lunchtime and rode to Mum and Dad's, whereupon we set out for Longniddry station to watch SR Battle of Britain class 34067 Tangmere powering through on her way to Newcastle with day 7 of The Great Britain XVII tour. But alack, alas! – it was her backup diesel 47832 leading the charge, and there was no steam on the rear at all.
Supposing that there might be a problem, we headed to Craigentinny sidings in town. This was where 60163 Tornado had come to from Inverness in the morning but I didn't know where or when it was going afterwards. Well, looking from the long footbridge, whom should we see but Tornado, with her fire still going, and some way down the siding, hiding between her support coach and a Class 37 diesel was Tangmere.
It seems that poor Tangmere, who has had more than her fair share of faults and accidents over the years, had broken down and never left Edinburgh. Tornado meanwhile was being checked and readied for a 4am departure.
After an hour of watching the proceedings, we headed back for a Chinese carry out and a lazy evening.
