No. 4 Waterloo Place

Walking along Wellington Street you can’t miss the house at No. 4 Waterloo Place, home to one of Cheltenham’s great eccentrics, “Dancing Ken” Hanks. Adorned with trademark cowboy motifs, the 78-year old is usually seen around the town dressed in a Wild West outfit with Union Jack earrings. As a charity fundraiser he has been indefatigable in raising over £1 million for local good causes whilst as the official local candidate for the Monster Raving Loony Party he has brought both colour and humour whenever Cheltenham’s seat is contested at general elections. A summary of his most recent ‘food for thought’ political ideas is available here where, amongst other things, he talks about how to cut down on knife crime by promoting knives without blades!
