Tales of Brave Ulysses
And the colours of the sea
Bind your eyes with trembling mermaids
And you touch the distant beaches
With tales of brave Ulysses
How his naked ears were tortured
By the sirens sweetly singing
For the sparkling waves are calling you
To kiss their white laced lips
I can still remember hearing Disraeli Gears for the first time and was rather blown away. It was an LP, played on a dancette (pink) record player!
The link is that this rather amazing sculpture is called Ulysses, or as it should be , Odysseus. It was commissioned ages ago and placed on the end of the pier. It has recently re-emerged and is now on a reclaimed rather flat bit of land gazing out to Bantry Bay - not in the right place or right angle in my opinion. I like it though, and I also like how these two kids photo-bombed. They were having a great time.
