Today was the day we got our gate fixed! Greg had said he'd come in the afternoon, so I was ready when he was, about 4pm. Mind you, we'd been visiting Christine all afternoon, so I'm not sure I'd've been safe with a drill, so just as well I was chief coffee maker and hander over of screws etc. It is SO NICE to have a gate again. Albeit a bit wonky. Yes, the bit that the ironmonger made for me, 'exactly' like the original bit, was not. In fact, it was almost a centimetre out, so the gate is squinty. Not enough to be really noticeable, and I'm sure the users of the gate will never notice, but really, that should NOT have happened, after charging me £30 for an ‘exact replica'...
Anyway, we've had a very pleasant day - once Archie had gone out, we dandered down to Christine's to wish her a happy birthday. Christine's neighbour and his dog popped in after cutting the grass, and a couple of bottles of chilled rosé were enjoyed. Dougal was his usual sociable self. He does make me laugh!
Greg came over about 4pm to fix the gate. And it took him a good hour and a half, mainly because of the 1cm discrepancy on the top hinge, so the latch, which had to be moved, had to be indented into the post. But it is SO NICE to have it there again.
