Fram Museum, Oslo

An interesting visit to the Fram Museum in Oslo this morning.  We've been here before a couple of times, but we always seem to find something new and interesting to capture our attention.

Fram was quite an amazing vessel -- built as a polar exploration ship, she was used on three important expeditions: with Fridtjof Nansen on a drift over the Arctic Ocean 1893-96, with Otto Sverdrup to the arctic archipelago west of Greenland - now the Nunavut region of Canada - 1898-1902, and with Roald Amundsen to Antarctica for his South Pole expedition 1910-12.

She is amazingly well preserved, and visitors can come aboard and explore both the outer decks and the interior.  I must say after seeing the sleeping quarters aboard Fram, I'm even more appreciative of our lovely accommodations on the Silver Dawn!

I just looked up the meaning of the Norwegian word Fram, and it translates into English as "Forward" -- a very appropriate name for an expedition vessel!
