Hexham Book Festival

As soon as I’d had my cup of tea in bed this morning I was sick so I didn’t take another Tramadol. (I only took one at bedtime). But I had slept all night which is very rare, and with no weird dreams.

Bathroom Chris came to put sealant on the bathroom floor and will come tomorrow to put a further coat on. He’s very thorough.

We drove to Hexham to the book festival to hear Lucy Mangan, the Guardian columnist. She owns over 10,000 books. It was light and entertaining and just what I needed. I bought her book for #2 daughter who had intended coming but she’s in Northern Ireland at a friend’s 40th. Lucy shares my preference for Jane Austen over the Brontes. We had a little chat about it when she signed the book and agreed you need to be of a certain age to feel sympathy for Mrs Bennett and to rage at Mr B. I asked her if Tory Boy was still a Tory and she said he was, though he didn’t care for the current lot. I sympathised and said I hadn’t had any influence on Mr C. It took the Falklands War to change his mind about them.

I have just seen a Facebook share from a newly elected Reform Northumberland county councillor. It says “Islam turning every single country it touches into a shithole for 1400 years”. I’m so disgusted and appalled.
