An eastern exploration
After riding home from Mum and Dad's I couldn't be doing sitting around and needed to get into the middle of nowhere to get away from my thoughts, so I took the Africa Twin down the A7. I picked up my quiet road through to Soutra Aisle again. My secret picnic area has been gated off and all the trees cut down, which was a complete bummer, so I swigged some hot tea from my flask and carried on.
Crossing the A68 I took the little B roads to Gifford and out the other side, and rode up into the Lammermuirs. I stopped a short way back from the mighty Duddy Bank by Redstone Rig, and enjoyed the views to the north, of Bass Rock, North Berwick Law, Traprain Law, and all the way west almost to Arthur's Seat which was behind the hill, but I could just make out the three tower blocks of Ravenscraig Flats in Kirkcaldy. It was windy and freezing cold though, so swapping to my winter gloves I returned to Gifford and had coffee and chocolate cake at a wee cafe that is popular with cyclists.
Warmed up again I rode to Peastonbank to check out a K6 telephone box but it has been removed, perhaps for restoration because in the pictures I saw it was looking pretty shabby. Two others I saw on the way were made by the Carron Company (boo hiss).
With that I took the A68 and the city bypass straight home to get warmed up and have tea.
