A Beautiful Aberdeenshire Coastal Tour

It couldn’t have been a more beautiful day for our tour of the small fishing villages along the Aberdeenshire coast, like Gardenstown, Crovie and Pennan (where the movie “Local Hero” was filmed).  Fraserburgh lighthouse was built into the remains of an old castle. The Bullers of Buchanan, with its collapsed sea cave and cliffs, were filled with nesting kittiwakes.  Very vertigo inspiring walk and I did let Henry get to close to the edge.  When we ended at New Slains Castle (whose octagonal staircase inspired Bram Stoker for his gothic novel Dracula) Henry pulled out all the stops with is Dracula impression.  A few friendly bats joined in the fun.  Henry is exhausted and I’m heading down for a glass of wine.  (A few more hotel details in the extra.) Off to Balmoral tomorrow!
