Green-Winged Orchids
Today some friends and I went to Stonebarrow, just off the South West Coast Path on the Jurassic Coast, and very close to Golden Cap. The National Trust were running a free event with ecology experts showing visitors the fields of wild flowers, including thousands of green-winged orchids (we have 6 in our local recreation field, and we're very proud of those!). Evidently the two fields that they showed us hold the largest collection of these wildflower orchids in the world!
It was bitterly cold because of a northerly wind blowing, but a really lovely walk, and so interesting to hear the specialists telling us all about the orchids. A well deserved coffee and cake at the Crazy Cow (little coffee stall at the Old Radar Station).
I don't know who this lady was but rather liked her outfit, which rather suited the surroundings. Although it looks as if she's trampling the plants, everyone was walking very carefully so as not to tread on the flowers.
I've put a couple of extras in too, including one gentleman who said that Ziggy should be available on the NHS to provide loving cuddles, and also Golden Cap.
